The magnetic therapy does not date from yesterday: this non-conventional medicine is used since ancient times in China, Egypt or Greece in the treatment of inflammatory diseases – arthritis, osteoarthritis …
Recognized “safe” by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1987, magnetotherapy appeared in Europe between the 19th and the 20th century.
How it works ? The principle, very concretely, is to put on the skin a small special magnet called “neodyne magnet” whose power is (often) between 0.12 and 0.22 Tesla – for comparison: the devices that allow perform MRI exams have a power between 1 and 3 Tesla.
” In the laboratory, it has been shown that an electric current can be generated between a magnet and a conductive fluid,” explains pharmacist Dr. Corinne Leman, ” although this has not been proven, it is probably the same thing. A neodyne magnet comes in contact with the skin: a weak electric current is diffused into the body thanks to the blood, which contains conductive substances. “
Result? ”  Cells benefit from this low electric current,” says the specialist , “and empirically, magnetic therapy reduces chronic pain, headaches , back pain and improves the well-being of users.  “
Caution: While magnetic therapy is widely used (and recognized) in the United States and Japan, no serious scientific study has demonstrated the benefits of this unconventional medicine. ” Magnetic therapy has absolutely not intended to replace medical treatment and can in no way substitute for medical consultation: but it may be a valuable supplement . Said Dr. Leman I advise everyone to forge his own opinion! “
Magnetotherapy: what are the indications?
Are there any contraindications? ”  Magnetic therapy is obviously contraindicated in people with a pacemaker ,” says Dr. Leman, “a non-conventional medicine that is also contraindicated in pregnant women and young children.  ” doubt, medical advice is essential.
In which cases can magnetic therapy be used? The main indications of the magnets are antalgic, anti-inflammatory and relaxing:
- Chronic pain,
- Muscular and tendinous pains : tendinitis , muscle aches,
- Bone pain,
- Joint pain.
